The staff of the USP Writing Center consists primarily of professional tutors. Though we do employ an occasional exceptional student tutor, most of our staff members are adjunct professors of English. As such, all possess the master’s degree and several possess the doctor of philosophy degree. We also have several ESL specialists to serve the needs of our students who speak English as a second language.

Director:
Justin Everett, M.A., Ph.D.

Dr. Everett received his B.A. degree from Oklahoma State University and his graduate degrees from the University of Oklahoma. He is a Composition specialist with backgrounds in developmental writing, ESL, first-year composition, English Renaissance literature, and, of course, writing centers.Dr. Everett’s research interests include cooperative learning, creative writing and the literature of the English Renaissance. However, he has a special passion for science fiction and fantasy literature.

Assistant Director:
Miriam Gilbert, M.Ed.

Miriam Diaz-Gilbert, M.Ed. (Rutgers University) is Assistant Director of the Writing Center and instructor of English. She teaches ESL (English as a second language) reading/writing courses and listening/speaking courses. She has been teaching since 1982, and has been teaching at USP since 1999. Before coming to USP, Diaz-Gilbert taught at University of Delaware, Rutgers University, University of Pennsylvania, Camden County College and Community College of Philadelphia. Her research interests are in the areas of second language writing, vocabulary development and oral communication skills. In 2002, she received a Lindback Research Grant, and in 2003 she was nominated for the Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching.
