187th Founders’ Day Bestows HonDSc
to Dr. Leonard Jacob; Two Merit Awards

In celebration of the 187th anniversary of the University’s founding, USP President Dr. Philip P. Gerbino marked the occasion with several events including the bestowing of an honorary degree upon Leonard S. Jacob, BI’70, MD, PhD, alumnus; chairman, Life Science Advisors; and founder as well as past chairman and CEO, InKine Pharmaceutical Co. Founders' Day recalls USP's establishment on Feb. 23, 1821, by 68 prominent Philadelphia apothecaries.

Further marking the occasion, USP’s M. Gary Sayed, PhD, provost and senior vice president for academic affairs, presented an award of merit to faculty member Dr. Melanie B. Oates, vice chair of academic affairs, pharmaceutical and healthcare business and assistant professor of pharmaceutical and healthcare business/pharmacy administration. Also, Aminta Hawkins-Breaux, PhD, dean of students, presented the second award of merit to USP student Anne “Maggie” Murphy, president of the inter-Greek council and vice president of the executive board of the student government association. The award of merit is reserved for faculty members and students who exemplify the entrepreneurial spirit and values of USP through dedication to innovation and excellence. Read more.
