| USP's Physical Therapy
Department celebrated its Silver Anniversary on Monday, October
15. The day was filled with events to mark the occasion, starting
with members of USP's Student Physical Therapy Association
promoting their profession by handing out informational pamphlets
and mini-back massagers.
At 4 p.m., an Alumni Panel Discussion for all students, moderated
by Dr. Peter Miller Executive Director of Assessment, exposed
the future PT professionals to alumni who are in the field.
Panelists included USP Assistant Professor Susan Wainwright
MPT’87; professor and partner at Infinity Partners,
a small business consulting group, Keith Marmer MPT’89;
Lisa Mackell MPT ’88, President/Owner, Theraplay, Inc.;
Paul G. Vidal MPT’97, Owner of Specialized Physical
Therapy, LLC and Physical Therapist for Mercy Community Hospital;
and Cheryl Talamo MPT’89, Physical Therapy Manager,
Doylestown Hospital.
Following the panel discussion, Ben F. Massey, Jr., was the
featured speaker for the main celebration. Massey is well
regarded for his contributions to the field of physical therapy
having served two terms as president of the American Physical
Therapy Association (APTA) from 2000–06. His talk, “25
Years: A Time to Celebrate the Advancements of the Profession,"
traced the growth of the profession in relation to world events.
At the conclusion of his talk, USP President Dr. Philip P.
Gerbino made a surprise presentation to Dr. Kevin Cody. Dr.
Cody was instrumental in the dynamic growth of PT at USP and
its celebration of 25 years. He is also credited with creating
the University's OT Department.
