PT Celebrates 25 Years at USP

USP's Physical Therapy Department celebrated its Silver Anniversary on Monday, October 15. The day was filled with events to mark the occasion, starting with members of USP's Student Physical Therapy Association promoting their profession by handing out informational pamphlets and mini-back massagers.

At 4 p.m., an Alumni Panel Discussion for all students, moderated by Dr. Peter Miller Executive Director of Assessment, exposed the future PT professionals to alumni who are in the field. Panelists included USP Assistant Professor Susan Wainwright MPT’87; professor and partner at Infinity Partners, a small business consulting group, Keith Marmer MPT’89; Lisa Mackell MPT ’88, President/Owner, Theraplay, Inc.; Paul G. Vidal MPT’97, Owner of Specialized Physical Therapy, LLC and Physical Therapist for Mercy Community Hospital; and Cheryl Talamo MPT’89, Physical Therapy Manager, Doylestown Hospital.

Following the panel discussion, Ben F. Massey, Jr., was the featured speaker for the main celebration. Massey is well regarded for his contributions to the field of physical therapy having served two terms as president of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) from 2000–06. His talk, “25 Years: A Time to Celebrate the Advancements of the Profession," traced the growth of the profession in relation to world events.

At the conclusion of his talk, USP President Dr. Philip P. Gerbino made a surprise presentation to Dr. Kevin Cody. Dr. Cody was instrumental in the dynamic growth of PT at USP and its celebration of 25 years. He is also credited with creating the University's OT Department.
