Education:

Ph.D, organic chemistry, University of Massachusetts

M.S., organic chemistry, Fordham University

B.S., chemistry, Spring Hill College

Expertise:

Chemistry and biochemistry of Polysorbate 80, sydnones and sydnonimines, potential anticancer and antiviral agents.

Background:

Dr. Thoman has been teaching at University of the Sciences for the past 10 years, including five years serving as chair of the Chemistry Department. He taught briefly at the University of Alabama and Stephen F. Austin State University after spending 30 years at the University of Scranton. He was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Pennsylvania Tissue and Transplant Bank, chairman of the Philadelphia section of the American Chemical Society and an advisor for the Community Drug Abuse Center.

He has been included in many publications for his written works on syndones, experimental organic chemistry, ethics of drug abuse and polysorbate 80. He has demonstrated his expertise through presentations across the country such as "Syndones and Sydonimines: Aromatic Wierdoes," "The Chemistry of Complexing and Chelating Agents," and "Maleic Hydrazide Arabinoside as a Potential Anticancer and Antiviral Agent.
