Background:

Dr. Ara Der Marderosian is a noted pharmacognosist, scientist, professor, author and lecturer. He has contributed countless hours to research and studies in hallucinogenic botanicals, medicinal and poisonous plants, marine pharmaceuticals, herbal teas, drugs of abuse and complementary and alternative medicine. He continuously is recognized for his significant contributions to society in the fields of pharmacognosy, pharmacology, veterinary medicine and podiatry. He has contributed his time and talents to numerous professional and academic organizations, including the American Pharmaceutical Association, American Chemical Society, American Society of Pharmacognosy, American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, the Society for Economic Botany and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

Aside from his teaching duties at University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, he has written numerous scientific journals on natural products. He is the editor of Facts and Comparison’s Review of Natural Products and a recent book for consumers titled Guide to Popular Natural Products. He has also traveled widely to study folk medicine and has extensive knowledge of Middle Eastern Medicine because of his Armenian ancestry. He recently edited a book on Armenian pharmacognosy. He has more than 35 years of experience in natural products and medicine.
