Campus Bus Service (PennBUS)

USP has contracted with the University of Pennsylvania, PennBUS to provide service to USP students, staff and faculty at no charge. Present a valid USP ID card to the driver when boarding.

Schedule and Route:

Both PennBUS West and PennBUS East operate on a fixed schedule and an established route.

Pickup and delivery of passengers is only at designated Transit Stops and Pick-Up Points including 42nd and Woodland Avenue (across from the USP England Library), and at any intersection with a stop sign or light along the route, including the corner of 43rd and Woodland Ave.

Hours of operation:

Approximately 5:00pm-12 midnight, Monday through Friday

Campus Shuttle Service (Penn Shuttle)

USP has contracted with the University of Pennsylvania to provided "off-campus to door" transportation to and from Penn Campus Transit Stops and Pick-Up Points, West Philadelphia, Center City and Powelton Village, within defined boundaries.  Call 215-898-RIDE (7433) for this service.

This service is especially convenient for students living in university sponsored housing.

There are four different Penn Shuttle routes: East, West, North, and Xtra. You can tell which route a Penn Shuttle is driving by the lit-up "E", "W", "N", or "X" on top of the van.

Hours of operation:

6:00pm-3:00am, every day of the week.

after 3:00am, a limited on-call service is available until 7am. Call 215-898-RIDE. Note: Waiting times may be longer.

East "E" Route

Provides "to door" service in Center City within Penn Transit's service area.

Operates Monday through Friday from 1am-3am; Saturday and Sunday, 6pm to 3am. To request an East shuttle from east of campus during these times, call 215-898-RIDE.

West "W" Route

Provides "to door" service in West Philadelphia within Penn Transit's service area.

Operates every day of the week between 6pm and 3am. To request a West shuttle from west of campus during these times, call 215-898-RIDE (7433).

North "N" route

Provides "to door" service in Powelton Village within Penn Transit's service area.

Operates every day of the week between 6pm and 3am. To request a North shuttle from on- or off-campus during these times, call 215-898-RIDE (7433).

Xtra "X" route

Provide "to door" service to off-campus areas west of the Schuylkill River not serviced by other Penn Shuttle routes (i.e. the Left Bank, the Penn Ice Rink). The Penn Transit Services dispatcher will determine the need for "X" route service as calls to 215-898-RIDE (7433) are received.

Rider Rights and Responsibilities

USP tries its best keep the PennBUS and Penn Shuttle services safe and convenient for everyone. To this end, we ask that you keep in mind your rights and responsibilities when you get a ride with Penn Transit.

A clean, well-functioning, and safe vehicle

To be safe and secure within the vehicle before the vehicle starts moving

To have current route and schedule information available

To be picked up and dropped off at designated locations within service boundaries

Rider Responsibilities

For safety reasons all riders must show their valid USP ID Card to the driver upon entering the vehicle. Drivers may refuse entry to any person not showing a valid USP Card.

Each driver has the right to deny service to any disruptive person. Penn Police or USP Public Safety & Security will provide assistance when required.

Those riders whose USP Cards have been lost, stolen, or forgotten will need to call 215-898-RIDE (7433) before boarding a vehicle to obtain permission to use the system

Baggage brought onto any Penn Transit vehicle must fit on the rider’s lap. This includes shopping bags.

Valid USP Card holders may be accompanied by up to 2 guests provided they ride with the USP Card holder


Walking Escort Service

University of the Sciences in Philadelphia Department of Public Safety is available to provide walking escorts to all USP students, faculty and staff, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, upon request. 

Walking escorts are provided for the purpose of safety and security to all locations within the Department of Public Safety patrol area (41st to 46th Street, Baltimore to Woodland (including 4619 Chester)).  The primary goal of the walking escort service is to allow safe travel from one location to another with a greater sense of security.

Medical Escort Service

University of the Sciences in Philadelphia Department of Public Safety provides medical escorts for non-life-threatening emergencies to University of the Sciences in Philadelphia approved hospitals, emergency rooms, and healthcare centers.

Call 215-895-1117 to arrange for a Medical Escort or request additional information. In the event of an emergency, call 215-596-7000.
