Summer Institute

An Integrated Approach to Science Teacher Professional Development

University of the Sciences in Philadelphia has been a leader in science education since our founding in 1821. In addition to educating our own students, University of the Sciences has been involved in professional development programs for teachers and summer enrichment programs for children in the Greater Philadelphia region for over 20 years.

Now in its 4th year, the Summer Institute, is a 4-week, in-depth professional development program based on an integrated science and math curriculum. This unique curriculum, designed entirely by University of the Sciences faculty specifically for the Summer Institute, focuses on improving science content knowledge through inquiry-based and experiential learning.

The Summer Institute’s program director, Dr. Lois Peck, is also the director for the University's Science Teacher Certification Program.
