As an environmental science major at USP, Lesley Young did fieldwork in the Pocono Mountains and the New Jersey Pinelands, at the Jersey Shore, and throughout the Delaware River Valley. After that, Montana was no problem.
“Even though now I’m in a totally different part of the country, I can be out in the field and have confidence because I have been exposed to so many different areas in the environment,” says Lesley, who spent last summer with the U.S. Bureau of Land Management’s Havre, Montana, field office.
She remains in Havre working and continuing to seek opportunities in the area. The variety of ecosystems she experienced through USP’s environmental science program well prepared her for fieldwork in Big Sky country.
“I’m planning on staying in the area and getting more experience,” Lesley says. “I enjoyed my mentor [at BLM] and the other people who work here.”
