Welcome
to the Department of Social Sciences
The faculty of the
Department of Social Sciences provide instruction in the social
sciences to undergraduate and graduate students, engage in scholarly
activity in our respective fields (Anthropology, Communication,
Economics, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology), and serve
the University and its programs.
The Department introduces students to the above special branches
of knowledge, gives them the necessary skills to use that knowledge,
and assists them in contributing scholarly work to this body of
knowledge and the society in general.
Our curriculum not only exposes students to what is current in
a particular social science area, but also to what is likely to
be important in that area in the future.
We offer a BS degree in Psychology
and a MS degree in Health
Psychology, the field that focuses on the critical interrelationship
between behavioral and interpersonal aspects of health, disease,
healthcare delivery, and medical treatment.
Education of students is our mission; research and other scholarly
activities contribute to this educational process.
Minors in Social Sciences
Students may minor in the following areas:
A minor consists of a minimum of 15 semester hours of coursework
credit (with the exception of Psychology, which has 21 credits)
having a common intellectual bond, formed by taking courses in one
of the established social science disciplines, or by structuring
a set of courses from different disciplines that are united by a
common theme.
If you would like information regarding admission to our University,
or would like to arrange a visit to the campus or to speak with a Department
