Medicare Drug Benefit Discussed at USP

Philadelphia is hosting a speaker series this fall
about the new Medicare drug benefit, which takes
effect on January 1, 2006, and is available to more

MBA Program Partners with APhA
The
American Pharmacists Association (APhA) has partnered
with University of the Sciences in Philadelphia
(USP) to promote USP’s MBA in Pharmaceutical
Business program to APhA members, as part of a unique
educational benefit. This collaboration offers pharmacist
members an opportunity to combine science and business
skills to create better products, services, and
structures that will improve medication use and
enhance patient health. APhA members may enroll
in courses in USP’s MBA or Executive MBA program

Professor's Painting Displayed at PAFA
Kenneth
D. Berman, an adjunct professor of art history/appreciation
and drawing at University of the Sciences in Philadelphia
(USP), was selected to have his original painting
displayed at the Juried Alumni Exhibit at the Pennsylvania
Academy of Fine Arts (PAFA), located at 1301 Cherry
Street, Philadelphia, Pa. Berman created a self-portrait
that fuses the tradition of classical portraiture
in art history with contemporary conceptual art.
The painting is made with Rembrandt’s tonal
glazing technique and, at the same time, is influenced
by Gerhard Richter’s experimental paintings
from the 1980s which explore the relationship between
the photographic process, point of view, and painting.

term as a member of the Enabling Bioanalytical and
Biophysical Technologies Study Section of the National
Institutes of Health (NIH) Center for Scientific

First All-Male Dance Team Wins Contest
When University
of the Sciences in Philadelphia (USP) students Mayank
Amin and Jatin Patel started to organize an all-male
dance team on campus, their idea wasn’t met
with many open arms—or dancing feet for that

College are among 15 colleges and universities nationwide
named by The Merck Company Foundation and the American

Endometriosis
is a common gynecological disease, affecting more
than 5.5 million women in North America, but its
cause and prevention remain unknown. Pain and infertility
are the two most common indicators, but some women
who are diagnosed with the disease report no symptoms.
Endometriosis contributes to infertility in 30 to
40 percent of affected patients. The pain can affect

Writing Competition Award. The competition invited
academic advisors to describe their relationship
with an advisee that best illustrates their philosophy
of advising. Northcutt, a professional academic

Guillermo
Moyna, PhD, assistant professor of chemistry at

been awarded one of nine 2004 Henry Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar
Awards presented nationwide. The $60,000 unrestricted
grant, given by the Camille and Henry Dreyfus Foundation,
recognizes faculty accomplishments in scholarly
research with undergraduates, as well as a compelling
