USP’s
Production of “The Vagina Monologues” Raises Awareness
in the Fight Against Violence to Women
University
of the Sciences in Philadelphia (USP) will present a benefit
production of The Vagina Monologues on Feb 18-20, 8 p.m.,
in the Student Wilson Center, 708 South 42nd Street, as part
of the 2003 V-Day College Campaign. Through V-Day campaigns,
local volunteers and college students produce annual benefit
performances of The Vagina Monologues to raise awareness and
funds for anti-violence groups within their own communities.
USP is one of the more than 660 colleges and universities
around the world that will perform the play to show support
of the campaign. Admission is $10 for the general public,
$7 for USP students. For more information, call (215) 596-7543.
The Vagina Monologues is a celebration of female sexuality
in all its complexity and mystery. Celebrated as the bible
for a new generation of women, The Vagina Monologues gives
real women's stories of intimacy, vulnerability and sexual
self-discovery.
V-Day
promotes creative events to increase awareness, raise money,
and revitalize the spirit of existing anti-violence organizations.
This year, there will be more than 2,000 V-Day events taking
place at more than 1,000 locations around the world. V-Day
events take place in February and March. All V-Day events
feature a performance of The Vagina Monologues and donate
their proceeds to local organizations working to stop violence
against women and girls. Last year, the 800 V-Day events around
the world helped to raise a total of $7,000,000.
