USP
Holds First Opening Convocation
To
celebrate the opening of the 2003-04 academic year, University
of the Sciences in Philadelphia (USP) will hold its first
Opening Convocation and Academic Procession on Thursday, August
28, 1:30 p.m., in the new Athletic/Recreation Center. The
event was organized to officially welcome new and current
students to the University. The entire USP community is invited
to attend. A reception with light refreshments will be provided
following the ceremony.
The
academic procession will include faculty walking ceremoniously
from the Wilson Student Center through the new quad to Athletic/Recreation
Center. Dr. Philip Gerbino, USP’s president, will address
and welcome the students and faculty, followed by remarks
from Delbert Payne, chairman of the Board of Trustees; Dr.
Barbara Byrne, vice president for academic affairs, Dr. Andrew
Peterson, president of the faculty council; and Susan Schwenderman,
director of international marketing, Philadelphia Convention
and Visitors Bureau.
University
of the Sciences in Philadelphia is a private, coeducational
institution founded in 1821 as Philadelphia College of Pharmacy,
the first college of pharmacy in North America. USP specializes
in educating students for rewarding careers through its undergraduate,
graduate and doctoral degree programs in the health and related
sciences.
