USP Holds First Opening Convocation

To celebrate the opening of the 2003-04 academic year, University of the Sciences in Philadelphia (USP) will hold its first Opening Convocation and Academic Procession on Thursday, August 28, 1:30 p.m., in the new Athletic/Recreation Center. The event was organized to officially welcome new and current students to the University. The entire USP community is invited to attend. A reception with light refreshments will be provided following the ceremony.

The academic procession will include faculty walking ceremoniously from the Wilson Student Center through the new quad to Athletic/Recreation Center. Dr. Philip Gerbino, USP’s president, will address and welcome the students and faculty, followed by remarks from Delbert Payne, chairman of the Board of Trustees; Dr. Barbara Byrne, vice president for academic affairs, Dr. Andrew Peterson, president of the faculty council; and Susan Schwenderman, director of international marketing, Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau.

University of the Sciences in Philadelphia is a private, coeducational institution founded in 1821 as Philadelphia College of Pharmacy, the first college of pharmacy in North America. USP specializes in educating students for rewarding careers through its undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degree programs in the health and related sciences.
