University
of the Sciences in Philadelphia Launches Security Bike Patrol
In
an effort to provide more visibility for its security officers
and create a more secure environment for students, University
of the Sciences in Philadelphia (USP) recently initiated a
Security Bike Patrol.
The
bike officers will patrol USP’s campus, including the
new Athletic Recreation Center, residence halls and parking
lots, Mondays through Fridays, 8 a.m. to midnight, and on
the weekends, noon to 8 p.m. The bike officers will complement
the security efforts already in place at USP.
“This
patrol practice is not new to university and college campuses
across the country,” says Stan Crommarty, USP’s
director of security and public safety. “Our foot patrols
and vehicle patrols have done a great job, but bike officers
can access areas that vehicles cannot. Also, bike officers
can travel at a much faster speed than foot patrols in cases
of emergency responses. We believe they will provide a higher
level of service for the entire campus.”
University
of the Sciences in Philadelphia is a private, coeducational
institution founded in 1821 as Philadelphia College of Pharmacy,
the first college of pharmacy in North America. USP specializes
in educating students for rewarding careers through its undergraduate,
graduate and doctoral degree programs in the health and related
sciences.
