Breaks Ground For New Multi-Million Dollar Athletic Center

The
landscape of 43rd Street and Woodland Avenue will
change dramatically as construction crews break ground on
a new multi-million dollar athletic/recreation center for
University of the Sciences in Philadelphia (USP).
USP President Philip P. Gerbino kicked off festivities
for the groundbreaking.
The
new building, part of a $30 million campus expansion and beautification
project, will provide current and future USP athletes and
students with state-of-the-art sports, recreation and meeting
facilities. Plans
are also being made for a landmark college green and unified
setting that will create a vibrant university campus.
The entire project is slated to be finished by Spring
2003.
"The
construction of the athletic/recreation center marks an exciting
juncture in the long and evolving history of USP," says Dr.
Gerbino. "This
is another prime example of the continual efforts the University
has made to expand and improve its educational and scenic
environment. This
building and subsequent plans for landscape development will
welcome and nurture a countless number of USP athletes and
students."
The
78,000 square foot building will provide exercise and practice
space for varsity and intramural sports as well as general
recreational facilities.
The new building will contain additional classrooms
and faculty offices and provide space for student organizations
to meet and for students to gather informally.
