Lambda Delta honors its Freshman Professor of the Year
The University of the Sciences
in Philadelphia (USP) chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta recently
honored Dr. Catherine M. Bentzley as its Freshman Professor
of the Year. Alpha Lambda Delta is a national academic honor
society for freshmen. Founded at the University of Illinois
in 1924, Alpha Lambda Delta has over 220 chapters across
the United States and has initiated over 575,000 students.
Before coming to USP in 1997,
Bentzley, an assistant professor of chemistry, was a research
assistant for five years at the University of Delaware.
She also spent time as a research chemist at DuPont and
a laboratory technician at Esschem Chemical Company. She
is involved with numerous organizations, including the Delaware
Valley Mass Spec Discussion Group, American Chemical Society,
American Society for Mass Spectrometry and the Association
for Women in Science. She has received several honors, including
the University of Delawares Elizabeth Dyer Excellence
in Teaching Award (Department of Chemistry) and the Camille
and Henry Dreyfus Foundation Travel Grant at the Sixth National
Conference of the Council on Undergraduate Research.
She received a Ph.D. in analytical
chemistry at the University of Delaware and a B.S. in chemistry
at St. Josephs University.
