of the Sciences in Philadelphia Receives Grant From W.W.
Smith Charitable Trust
University of the Sciences in
Philadelphia recently received a grant in the amount of
$73,000 from the W.W. Smith Charitable Trust. The grant
will be used for W.W. Smith Charitable Trust scholarships,
awarded to worthy full-time students, based on financial
need and good academic standing. It is the most significant
source of private aid to students at USP.
"The sustained commitment
of the W.W. Smith Charitable Trust scholarship program fosters
appreciation and kindles enthusiasm in our students,"
said Dr. Philip P. Gerbino, president of USP. "The
Trusts social charitable consciousness is also heightened.
Cognizant of the scholarship benefit, recipients strive
to be exemplary students. In all respects, the W.W. Smith
Charitable Trust scholarships are achieving their intended
goal."
The W.W. Smith Charitable Trust
program has been in existence since 1977 and currently provides
grants for scholarships to 29 colleges and universities.
The Trust is one of the largest private foundations in Philadelphia,
awarding about $8 million annually.
University of the Sciences in
Philadelphia is a private, coeducational institution founded
in 1821 as Philadelphia College of Pharmacy, the first college
of pharmacy in North America. USP specializes in educating
students for rewarding health and science careers through
its ten bachelor's, ten master's and four doctoral degree
programs in the health and related sciences.
