The Department of Public Safety and Security is the University's designated agency for matters relating to security on campus and crime reporting.

The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia maintains a full time, 24-hours-a-day Public Safety and Security Department.

The Department of Public Safety and Security consist of a Director, Associate Director, administrative coordinator, and a uniform security component which consist of 23 uniformed security officers, 3 sergeants and 1 Lieutenant.

USP has Philadelphia Police patrols on our campus and adjacent streets (2 officers in a regular police vehicle) 7 days a week from 6:00 PM to 2:00 AM.

The Department of Public Safety and Security is responsible for identifying prevention programs and strategies to support a safe and secure academic environment. The Department also maintains a strong commitment to supporting the educational goals of the campus community. In doing so, the Department seeks to preserve an environment. where diverse social, cultural, and academic values are allowed to develop and prosper. All members of the Department of Public Safety and Security are expected to participate actively in the achievement of these goals and in service to the entire University of the Sciences in Philadelphia community.

All security personnel (except administrative coordinator) have completed Pennsylvania Act 235 training. Uniform personnel are trained in emergency response procedures, fire safety, first aid, CPR, and Automated External Defibrillation (AED).

Security officers are not sworn police officers, and therefore do not have authority to make arrests. Security officers who have valid Act 235 certification can detain persons observed committing criminal offenses until local police arrive. Otherwise their authority is the same as any private citizen.
