All individuals who work in or who frequent areas in which radioactive materials are used or stored:

• Must attend radiation safety training before assuming duties in these areas.

Training is provided for new workers dealing with radioactive material during the months of March and September. Additional training, if necessary, can be scheduled with the Safety Department (X8925).

Training is provided for maintenance, custodial, and security personnel during the New Employee Orientation Program.

• Must undergo annual re-evaluation.

Annual refresher training is provided by attending one of the scheduled sessions or by completing a safety discussion guide and quiz.

Re-training is provided whenever there is a significant change in duties, NRC regulations, or in the terms of the NRC license.

The authorized user is responsible for:

• Ensuring that all employees and students under his/her supervision are adequately trained in radiation safety practices.

• Developing training programs that are job specific for the radionuclides utilized in their laboratory.

• Providing the employees and students with information and training on the hazards associated with the radioactive materials they work with in the course of performing their duties.
