PHYSICAL THERAPY FACULTY JOURNAL CLUB
In the summer of 2005, the Pediatric and Neurologic Sections
of the American Physical Therapy Association held an intensive
conference titled: III STEP: Summer Institute on Translating Evidence
into Practice. The conference was multidisciplinary and the focus
was discussing movement dysfunction and current movement science
research involving pediatric and adult patients.
Each presentation was videotaped along with the slide presentation
and one of the goals of the conference was that this information
would be disseminated to clinicians throughout the country so
that they could also improve their patient outcomes. Each presenter
at the conference submitted suggested readings so that optimal
participation could result.
It is the intent of this journal club that the participants will
read the suggested readings, attend the video presentation of
the topic being discussed, and engage in some critical thinking
to develop strategies to improve our patients’ function.
It would be great to have you come share your thoughts with us.
If you are interested in attending, please email Margie
Roos, PT, DPT, NCS or Gregory
Thielman, PT, PhD and any questions you may have can be answered
along with letting you know what article to read for the next
journal club. Meetings first Wednesday of every month-Next one
is October 4, 2006 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
JUST FOUR COURSES ARE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A MASTER'S DEGREE
AND DOCTORATE DEGREE
If you're a Master of Physical Therapy graduate, you only need
to complete four on-line courses to receive a Doctor of Physical
Therapy (DPT) degree, which will enable you to further your career
in the health profession field. USP recently established a DPT
program, including a Post-Professional DPT for USP graduates who
want to enhance their current clinical practice by combining clinical
experience and academic coursework.
The Post-Professsional DPT program will also open up opportunities
to experience other dimensions of the physical therapy industry,
such as teaching in the entry level USP DPT curriculum on campus,
serving as a research assistant, or becoming a clinical instructor
for USP's PT students. USP's Career Placement Center can provide
additional assistance with career advancement and personal development.

UNIVERSITY OF THE SCIENCES IN PHILADELPHIA CO-SPONSORS PRO BONO
CLINIC IN SOUTHWEST PHILADELPHIA
The PT Department and Mercy Rehab Associates are helping to alleviate
some of the public's physical and financial distress by sponsoring
a pro bono physical therapy clinic at the Mercy Eastwick Wellness
Center, 2821 Island Avenue, Philadelphia, Pa. The clinic provides
physical therapy services and a general fitness program to individuals
who don't have the ability to pay for these services because of
lack of insurance or depleted insurance benefits for a given diagnosis
or problem. PT students are active participants in administering
clinical care.
