For Sharon Moravec, a Biology major, teamwork produces great results. Take her collaboration with Professor John Porter, a research partnership that began in her freshman year. His interest in natural products brought the two together. They looked through the National Cancer Institute's library of 150,000-plus natural source extracts. "We screened selected extracts to focus on the disease organism that causes tuberculosis," says Sharon. According to Professor Porter, "USP students gain a better understanding of their fields and technical skills so they can fit into industrial, graduate, or clinical research quite naturally." Sharon agrees: "My research experience helped me get into my first-choice graduate program. I know something about how science is done."
