Unlimited Opportunities for Discovery

Edward Patrick O'Brien
A graduate student at the University of Maryland, Edward O'Brien BC '02 is working with the NIH researching theory and computations to understand how proteins interact and what their relationship is to disease proliferation. How did he become involved in this kind of project? "I was involved with professors, one-on-one, doing research at USP," he said. "USP professors are real-world scientists. They have connections with many scientific corporations. Because of that, I had an internship the summer of my freshman year with a major pharmaceutical lab and another at a premier research institute in California." Ed believes that USP offers such an outstanding foundation in the sciences that "it creates unlimited opportunities in both industry and academia."
