What is the Pharmaceutical Sciences Program?

  • The development of new biotech medications, continuing advances in how drugs exert their actions, and innovative research on delivering drug molecules to their site of action are recent occurrences which are expanding employment opportunities for graduates.  Graduates from our B.S. in Pharmaceutical Sciences program are responding to these opportunities by applying biological, chemical, mathematical, and pharmaceutical principles to actively participate in the design, development, manufacture, and testing of all types of drug delivery systems.

  • The program emphasizes laboratory experiences and problem solving with direct, hands-on use of laboratory instruments.  Research (PH399) with the faculty is a requirement in the fourth year; however, we recommend strongly that some of the electives be satisfied with additional research credits.  Also, opportunities are often available for students to contribute as paid technicians on funded research projects.

  • Summer internship positions at pharmaceutical, biotech, and specialty companies are continually being developed to provide students with practical work experiences.

  • The curriculum offers ample elective time to develop an area of specialization or to pursue a minor in a specific discipline.

  • A minimum of two years of resident study is required for a B.S. degree.  A student who has essentially fulfilled the course and credit requirements for the first two years may apply for admission as a third-year transfer student.
