As a clinician and educator, Dr Scholtz promotes improving patient care and educating students, pharmacists, and physicians. As oncology pharmacist, she created and supervised oncology pharmacy services at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania from 1983-1990. During this time, she was involved in research studies and created the ECOG Pharmacy Committee. She then established clinical pharmacy services at two community-teaching hospitals developing pharmacokinetic programs and establishing various clinical services. Dr. Scholtz was the hospital-wide coordinator for the institution's conscious sedation project in 1998, and, as pharmacy director, worked to gain the first JCAHO accreditation for her institution.

Jean became a full-time faculty member in July 2000, but continues to be actively involved with various clinical activities at her Mercy Suburban Hospital practice site including the review if ICU patients, immunization program and medication reconciliation program. She is board certified in pharmacotherapy, and has been actively involved in the Pennsylvania Society of Health-System Pharmacists, serving as president in 2002-3 and teaching numerous ASHP Clinical Skills programs throughout Pennsylvania. Since 1999, she has been program director for the ASHP Residency at Mercy Suburban Hospital, and has served on the ASHP House of Delegates since 2001. Dr. Scholtz received the PSHP Joe E. Smith Award in 1996 and the University of Pittsburgh Distinguished Alumni Award in 2001.
