The mission of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences is to
educate students in the fundamentals of pharmaceutics,
pharmacology and toxicology, and the pharmaceutical
sciences to promote the development of the skills required for
critical thinking, problem solving and independent learning.
Pharmaceutics deals with the development and evaluation of drug
delivery systems, with the objective of optimizing drug therapy.
Pharmacology is the study of the actions and effects of chemicals
intended for the prevention, treatment or diagnosis of disease;
toxicology is the study of the poisonous or injurious effects of
drugs and chemical agents on living organisms.
The pharmaceutical sciences utilize a broad scientific background
in biology, chemistry, mathematics and pharmaceutics in developing,
manufacturing, and evaluating drug products.
At the graduate level in pharmacology/toxicology
and pharmaceutics,
the faculty prepare students for productive careers in biomedical
and pharmaceutical research by providing quality educational programs
at the PhD and MS levels.
A listing of the faculty is also available.
