Where You Can Work
Put your proficiency to work in the United States or take your skills to rural international communities to help them understand how to get and stay well. Become a Physician’s Assistant for one of the armed forces, the federal government or a clinic. Wherever you choose to work, you will be trained to do most of what a physician is allowed to do, under the supervision of a physician. You’ll be qualified to work in many areas of health care, including:
- Surgery—Cardiovascular, General, Orthopedic, Neurosurgery
- Dermatology
- Emergency medicine
- Family or internal medicine
- Obstetrics/Gynecology
- Occupational medicine
- Orthopedics
- Pediatrics/Neonatal Intensive Care
- Urology/Nephrology
- Other specialty practice areas (i.e., Geriatrics, Gastrointestinal, Addiction Medicine, Rheumatology, Oncology, Endocrinology)
- Pharmaceutical sales, research and/or clinical trials
As an entry-level Physician Assistant, you might work in a:
- Hospital
- Critical Care Unit (ICU)
- Psychiatric clinic
- Nursing home
- Student health service
- Private practice
- Rural or urban clinic
- Federal government setting (CIA, State Department)
- Armed forces
- HMO
- College/university
- Prison system
