Post-baccalaureate Master's in Occupational Therapy

If you have a background in sociology, psychology, or other related fields, you can broaden your options with a professional occupational therapy degree from University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. Students attend class full-time and must complete 97 hours of coursework. If you have taken courses in equivalent material, you may be given credit for individual courses, based on review of material by the department chair. Graduates from the MOT program at USP are qualified to sit for the National Certification Exam for Occupational Therapists.

Eligibility

Applicants with a BS or BA may enroll in individual courses to increase their knowledge in the field of occupational therapy, or they can apply to complete the MOT degree.

Students will be required to enter the program with some basic preparation for the professional MOT program. This includes the following prerequisite courses:

• 2 semesters of Anatomy and Physiology
• 1 semester of Abnormal Psychology
• 1 semester of either Sociology or Cultural Anthropology
• 1 semester of Physics (with or without a lab)
• 1 semester of Human Growth and Development through the Life Span.

Students may get credit for the above courses through a CLEP process. In some instances, credit may be given for life experience.

Admission to the MOT Program

The following will be required prior to course enrollment:

• Application for admission
• Transcripts from all colleges/universities attended
• GPA of 2.5 or higher
• Statement of professional goals. Your typed statement should explain in detail:
  • your interest in the MOT program,
  • why you have chosen this degree program,
  • how you developed this interest,
  • your career goals, and
  • any attributes and accomplishments you believe will enhance your future academic and career success.
• Resume/Curriculum Vitae (Optional)
• Application fee of $45.00 (payable to USP)
• International applications are required to submit Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores, if their college level studies were not conducted in english
• International students requiring an F-1 Student Visa should also apply as early as possible due to space limitations and visa requirements. The deadline for submission of an application for admission for students requiring an F-1 Student Visa is January 15th.

Interviews will be conducted at the discretion of the Occupational Therapy Department's Admission Committee.
