The Institute for Geriatric Studies (IGS) is pleased to announce the addition of Grace Harrison as the assistant director. With more than 30 years of experience as an administrator and consultant for long-term care facilities, Harrison is uniquely equipped to help IGS meet its goals for expanding its outreach initiatives and research endeavors.
After receiving her bachelor of arts in psychology with honors from University of Pennsylvania and her master’s degree in healthcare administration from Penn State, Harrison spent the early part of her career as a research psychologist in Philadelphia. She joined Haverford State Hospital as a staff research psychologist and later became the superintendent. While at Haverford State, she established the hospital’s first long-term care facility.
Over the years, Harrison has held administrative posts in private and hospital-based facilities in both Eastern Pennsylvania and South Jersey. She has helped train administrators in many of the area’s long-term care facilities, and is often an expert witness in court cases involving charges of nursing home abuse and/or neglect.
Harrison currently serves on the board of the Eastern Pennsylvania Geriatric Society.
