USP Athletes Earn “Philadelphia Inquirer” Academic Honors

Four student-athletes from University of the Sciences in Philadelphia have been named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Stars Teams. Selections are made by the Philadelphia Area Sports Information Directors Association based on balancing scholarly efforts with athletic achievements.

Amanda Bedway PharmD’10 was named the 2007-08 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women’s Tennis Performer of the Year. She is also one of seven student-athletes selected to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women’s Tennis Team. She has earned dean’s list honors for eight semesters. Bedway played No. 1 singles and doubles for USP this year, earning all-conference honors after going 8-3 in singles and 8-2 in doubles. Her 66 wins throughout her career are a school record.

Brittany Ebersole PhC’09 was named to the 2008 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Softball Team. She has earned dean’s list honors for six semesters. She played in 19 games for the Devils in 2008, starting 17 at third base as part of a three-player platoon. Ebersole recorded a .375 batting average, and her five sacrifice hits this year are the fifth-highest single season total in USP history.

Tyler Weisel PharmD’10 and Daniel Rubin PharmD’12, have both been named to the 2007-08 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Men's Tennis Team. Weisel has earned dean’s list honors for six semesters. He ends his career at USP with a 9-5 singles record and a 12-2 doubles record while playing in the No. 1 slot for both and leading the Devils to a 10-3 record this year. His 76 total wins throughout his career are the most in USP’s history. Rubin has been named to the dean's list for three semesters. He recorded an 8-5 singles record primarily at the No. 4 singles slot and an 11-3 doubles mark which included a perfect 8-0 record at #2 doubles. For his career, Rubin has a 20-8 doubles record and a 13-8 singles mark.
