Recreation & Intramurals
Studying is hard work; you’re going to need to take breaks. Thanks to the Athletics/Recreation Center (ARC) and a comprehensive intramural program that provides just enough competition to blow off steam, you’ll be relaxed enough to hit the books again in no time.
The 78,000-square-foot ARC provides exercise and practice space for varsity and intramural sports as well as general recreational facilities. The facility, part of a $30 million campus expansion and beautification project, contains a 3,500-square-foot, three-lane swimming pool; additional classrooms and faculty offices; and space for student organizations to meet and for students to gather informally.
USP’s Department of Campus Recreation welcomes all students, faculty, and staff regardless of their athletic abilities. Our intramural program is structured to provide the entire University of the Sciences community with the opportunity to participate in a variety of competitive and recreational sports activities. Intramurals feature short-term, on-campus competition in traditional, and some not-so-traditional, sports. All intramural sports include divisions for men, women, and co-rec (men and women playing on the same team).
General Information about ARC Access
All full-time students, faculty, and staff with a valid University of the Sciences ID will be granted access to the facility with their ID cards.
Daily-Use Lockers
We have 25 daily-use lockers available in both the men's and women's locker rooms. Please remove all items by closing each night. With a valid University of the Sciences ID, you can check out locks for the daily-use lockers at the front counter.
Yearly Locker Rentals
Sixty student lockers and 34 faculty/staff lockers are available for rental for the academic year. Lockers are offered on a first-come, first-served basis; if we meet our quota on locker rentals, there will be an e-mail sent to the campus listserv.
Locker Rental at the ARC for the Academic Year 2009-2010 will be scheduled as follows:
Students Locker Rental Fee: $25.00 - Cash or Check -
Starting August 28th, 2009
Monday - Friday: 7am - 3pm
Faculty and Staff Locker Rental Fee: $50.00 - Cash or Check -
Starting September 8th, 2009
Monday - Friday: 7am - 3pm
All personal belongings must be removed from lockers by May 7th 2010.
Guest Passes
Anyone with a valid University of the Sciences ID card may purchase a guest pass. Each person with a valid ID may purchase up to two passes. Passes cost $10.00 per day and are good for one day. The sponsor is asked to stay with his or her guest at all times. Guest passes may be purchased at the ARC front desk.
Equipment Usage
With a valid University of the Sciences ID card, equipment can be borrowed for use in the ARC. Equipment available includes basketballs, footballs, soccer balls, volleyballs, badminton racquets, shuttlecocks, pool cues and balls, and table tennis paddles and balls.
