Network Overview
USP faculty, staff and students enjoy access to the wealth of resources
on the global Internet via a campus gigabit ethernet fiber-optic
backbone. Every room in the residence halls is wired as well as
public access labs in each dorm. We also offer wireless network
access in the Library, Wilson Hall, the ARC,Whitecar and elsewhere.
We will continue to monitor campus technology needs and make improvements
as necessary and as funding permits. In the past few years we have
integrated a new computer lab in Wilson Hall, upgraded PC's throughout
the campus and incorporated the state-of-the-art technology teaching
classrooms in the CAPS facility. We have also upgraded our campus
backbone to gigabit ethernet with the installation of a Nortel Networks
Passport routing switch.
The network topology is a switched ethernet environment. 10 base-T,
100 base-T/FX and 1000 base-FX are used to connect various areas
of the campus. Connections to the Internet are made via multiple
T-1 lines and a partial DS-3 to our ISP's.
