Updating Your Antivirus Files

Having an antivirus program on your computer is not enough to protect your computer from a destructive computer virus—you need to regularly update your program and its data files.If your computer is on the USP campus network, you can update your files by following these steps:

  1. Close all applications (e.g., Word, Netscape)
  2. Double-click on the ‘Network Neighborhood’ or "My Network Places" icon. It is usually found below 'My Computer' in the top left-hand corner of your desktop.
  3. Double-click on ‘USP-NAS1’. The entries should be alphabetical order. You will probably have to scroll down or across to find 'USP-NAS1'. If you are asked for a username and password, enter 'usplib' for the username, leave the password blank and click on 'OK'.
  4. Double-click on the ‘public’ folder.
  5. Double-click on the ‘Antivirus’ folder.
  6. ouble-click on the ‘SuperDAT’ folder.
  7. Look for an entry named ‘sdat…’ with numbers after ‘sdat’. The entry will have a globe icon. Double-click on it. If there are more than one ‘sdat…’ entries, click on the one with the biggest number after it, or view the directory in ‘Details’ mode and choose the ‘sdat…’ file with the most recent ‘Modified’ date.
  8. The SuperDAT wizard will appear on your screen. Follow its instructions and it will download and install the latest antivirus files for you.
