Program Director, Master of Public Health

The College of Graduate Studies at University of the Sciences in Philadelphia (USP) seeks applications for the founding Director of the Master of Public Health (MPH) Program. The MPH is a new program that joins other professional degree programs offered by USP, including Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Pharmacy. The MPH program was launched in the 2006 Fall semester with a Health Policy Concentration. Planning for additional concentrations is underway. The Health Policy Concentration builds on the highly successful PhD in the Health Policy Program.

Founded in 1821 as the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy, USP is an independent health science university located in the University City section of West Philadelphia. USP has 2,400 undergraduate and first professional degree students and 350 graduate students.

Position
The Program Director position is a full-time, 12 month position. The Director will coordinate the MPH Program’s application for accreditation by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) and prepare proposals. The Director will also develop linkages between the MPH Program and regional public health practitioners. Additional responsibilities include strategic planning, recruiting and retaining students and program faculty, advising and mentoring students, managing the program’s budget, updating the program’s assessment plan, managing support staff, identifying each semester’s course offerings, and reviewing university publications describing the program. As a faculty member, the Director will also teach in the MPH Program and maintain a research program relevant to public health. The Director will report directly to the chair of the Department of Health Policy and Public Health.

Qualifications
An earned doctorate in an area related to public health and at least 3 years of administrative experience is preferred. The successful candidate should have credentials suitable for an academic appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor in this tenure track position. Expertise in global public health issues, a track record of collaborative research in a multidisciplinary setting, and experience in the accreditation process of the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) are highly valued.
