Position Title: GROUNDSKEEPER

SUMMARY
: Maintains grounds of University of the Sciences in Philadelphia’s campus and related property by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include the following (other duties may be assigned):
Cuts lawns, trims and edges around walks, flower beds and walls.

Prunes shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth or remove damaged leaves, branches or twigs.

Plants grass, flowers, trees and shrubs; waters lawn and shrubs.

Cleans grounds and removes litter; collects and disposes of trash from around campus.

Removes snow from walks and driveways; spreads salt on public passageways to prevent ice build-up, using various equipment.

Sprays lawn, shrubs and trees with fertilizer, herbicides and insecticides; rakes and bags leaves.

Cleans out drainage ditches, culverts and roof drains.

Uses a variety of tools and machinery, including mowers, trimmers, chain saws, clippers, etc.

Sharpens tools such as edging tools, mower blades and shears.

Makes minor repairs on equipment such as lawn mower, spreaders, snow removal equipment,
powered carts and fleet vehicles.

Operates University vehicles and motorized equipment, including trucks, carts and mowers,
and Hy-reach machines. Occasionally must work in inclement weather and at off-hours.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Must have valid driver’s license to operate University vehicles.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to sit and talk or hear.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 80 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to vibration. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles.

The noise level in the work environment is sometimes very loud.
