Job Description-Career Services Director
Position Title: Career Services Director
Scope of the Position:
The position resides in the Division of Student Affairs and reports
directly to the Dean of Students. This is a twelve-month, administrative
position with varied responsibilities in support of the career development
of students in the sciences and health professions arena.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Supervise staff
• Utilize theory and practice to develop a comprehensive career
services operation for students enrolled in science and health science
disciplines
• Work closely with the faculty and administrators of the
University to assess the career needs of students
• Develop resources to assist students at each stage of the
career development process
• Write and edit materials for workshops and other career
related programming
• Write proposals as needed for targeted special programs
• Develop employment opportunities for all graduates of the
University
• Maintain corporate and educational linkages
• Conduct career assessments for undergraduate and graduate
students
• Provide one-to-one career counseling sessions as well as
group sessions
• Work closely with academic advising and personal counseling
staff to coordinate student development initiatives
• Conduct workshops on a variety of career issues including
resume writing, interviewing preparation and practice, and general
assessment and exploration techniques
• Provide career information and support to faculty
• Provide training to peer counselors for support of Career
Services function
• Work in concert with the USP Alumni Board for student orientation
programming.
• Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Masters degree, plus a minimum of 5 years experience, preferably
within higher education, in the field of Career Planning and Development,
Counseling, or related area. Certified in Myers-Briggs Type Indicator
and Strong Interest Inventory. Strong verbal and written communication
skills required.
