Description:
The Department of Biological Sciences of the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia invites applications for a new, 10-month, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August, 2010.  The successful candidate will possess a Ph.D. or equivalent degree, and postdoctoral training in molecular biology or pharmacognosy. Candidates should be broadly trained in methodologies commonly employed to explore questions in natural products research using molecular biology.  In accord with the tenure track at the University, this student-focused department requires a commitment to undergraduate and graduate education, research, and service. The successful candidate will teach a graduate-level course in pharmacognosy and will participate in team-teaching undergraduate microbiology laboratories. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an extramurally-funded research program, and participate in existing graduate programs (MS in Cell Biology & Biotechnology; PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology; Ph.D. in Pharmacognosy).

The department of Biological Sciences consists of 18 full-time faculty and three staff. There are 160 undergraduate majors, divided among BS programs in biology, microbiology, and environmental science, and 50 full- and part-time graduate students in the graduate programs. The department contributes to the interdisciplinary bioinformatics BS and MS programs, and department graduate faculty members also participate in the PhD programs in Biochemistry and Pharmacology/Toxicology at the University. The Department of Biological Sciences is housed in a newly-opened Science and Technology Center, providing significant opportunity for the growth of its programs. Laboratory and start-up funds will be provided to the successful candidate.
