Assistant Professor/ Associate Professor Computer Science


The Department of Bioinformatics and Computer Science at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia invites applications for an Assistant Professor or Associate Professor (tenure –track) position starting August 15, 2008. We are looking for a dynamic faculty member to join our recently expanded program in Bioinformatics and Computer Science. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to research and teaching and mentoring both graduate and undergraduate students. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in software applications development using a variety of languages, network and/or distributed computing, systems analysis and web-based development. Candidates with related research interests in any area of the Life Sciences, Medical Informatics and/or Bioinformatics are encouraged to apply.

The USP Department of Bioinformatics and Computer Science offers the Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, in addition to the Bachelor of Science and the Master of Science degrees in Bioinformatics. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a research project that integrates student research in cutting-edge areas of computer science and is able to compete for external funding. New faculty will have the opportunity to collaborate with other USP faculty in a diverse number of specialties including, bioinformatics, biotechnology, computer-aided drug design, computational chemistry, mathematics and statistics, and the health sciences. The University has recently opened a new state-of- the-art Science and Technology Center which houses the Department of Bioinformatics and Computer Science. The successful candidate will move into new office space, research laboratory and impressive computational teaching facilities.
