Position Title: Pharmacy Practice Field Supervisor
Position Summary:
Visit Doctor of Pharmacy student experiential education rotation
sites where, through interviews with students and preceptors, the
quality and effectiveness of student training is evaluated. Prepare
site visit reports and communicate problems that require attention.
Assist in identifying, recruiting and developing new sites and preceptors.
Orient new preceptors, provide preceptor education at site, and
participate in program and preceptor development programs. Assist
with managing site, preceptor and student data in PEMS database
and assist students and preceptors in its use.
Duties & Responsibilities: (Core/Essential duties or tasks
that are fundamental and not marginal to the performance of the
job. Define purpose, function, and result to be accomplished. Also
focus on the frequency, time spent, etc. List in order of importance
and percent of time devote to them.)
1. Schedules visits to review rotation site on a regular basis
or upon request as defined by the Director of Clerkship programs.
2. Conduct interview with students currently at site. Review their
experiences relative to their rotation and site specific objectives
and overall experience at the site. Address similar issues and concerns
identified by student from previous rotations.
3. Conduct interviews with preceptors to review recent student
experiences, identify issues or concerns regarding the program,
site or students (specific or general).
4. Prepare and submit a report for each site visit within 14 days.
Immediately report by phone or email any problems that require the
immediate attention of the Clerkship Director or Vice Chair.
5. Identify potential rotation sites or new preceptors at existing
sites. Explore and communicate such opportunities to appropriate
individual at University. Evaluate site and potential preceptors
as requested; make recommendation regarding potential as a rotation.
6. Support use of PEMS database and related communications through
training and support of preceptors and students in use of system,
updating data in system, and notifying appropriate individuals of
needs to update the system.
7. Provide, in cooperation with the Director of Experiential Resources,
orientation to new preceptors which may include program objectives,
rotation learning objectives, policies and procedures, defining
student expectations and experiences and student evaluations.
8. Assist in developing program assessment data, contributing to
plans to improve experiential program, and in the implementation
of initiatives that are developed.
9. Participate in on-campus meetings with experiential education
staff, faculty, preceptors, etc. as required.
10. Submit documentation of hours, travel and expense reimbursement
reports in timely manner per departmental standards.
11. Permitted to serve as a lab or small group instructor and/or
assist in course coordination if qualified to fulfill role based
on practice experience and training.
Minimum Education & Experience:
Pharmacy Degree (BSc or Pharm.D.), practice based experience (past
and/or current) is desirable.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required: (Characteristics or
knowledge that an individual must have to be successful on the job)
Effective interpersonal and verbal communication skills. Ability
to prepare written reports and submit using remote computer access
via email or web access. Effective in problem identification, conflict
resolution and related communications. Proficiency in routine PC
use needed to support operations of program including email, word
processing and basic use of excel with ability to learn and use
PEMS system. Ability to provide instruction to preceptors and students
consistent with job responsibilities.
Licenses/Certifications Required: (Specify licenses and/or certifications
required)
Pharmacist: current pharmacist license is preferred.
Drivers license in good staning
Working Conditions: Must be able to travel via automobile to visit
sites including use of own vehicle.
Physical Effort: Driving, walking and use of computer
Environmental Conditions: Year round outdoor travel to visit sites
which include all settings where pharmacists practice (community,
hospital, clinics, HMOs, pharmaceutical industry, home care, government
agencies, etc.)
