USP’s forensic science integrated program or minor can help you on your way to a rewarding career in this fascinating field.

Discover Opportunities in the Forensic Science Field

TV shows like CSI and Law & Order have showcased the role of forensic scientists, but the opportunities extend far beyond the police crime lab.

Forensic scientists work in:

  • All levels of law enforcement
  • U.S. Department of Justice
  • FBI
  • CIA
  • Environmental Protection Agency
  • U.S. Postal Service
  • U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services
  • Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

Find the Education You’ll Need at USP

To enter the forensic science field, the American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS) recommends a bachelor’s degree in one of the natural sciences, such as biology or chemistry, and requires 24 semester hours of each.  The AAFS states that:  “The title of the degree is not as important as the courses taken.”

A university dedicated to the sciences and offering rigorous hands-on research for undergraduates, makes USP an ideal school for those entering this field.

USP is also a wise choice for those pursuing a forensic science specialty that requires a medical degree or a PhD. The acceptance rate into med school for USP graduates is twice the national average. In fact, by graduation day, more than 90 percent of USP graduates have obtained a job in their field or have been accepted into a graduate program.

USP offers two ways for you to pursue a career in forensic science:
