Undergraduate Research Awards

The Martin and Karen Gibbs' Prize in Biological Sciences and Chemistry is given to one graduating senior in Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Pharmaceutical Chemistry or Medical Technology. The prize consists of a cash award and certificate. Applications for this graduation award should be submitted in the Spring of the senior year to the Chair of Biological Sciences and are due at the end of March. Requirements on which the award is based include:

  • Formal presentation of the research at a scientific meeting.
  • Letter of recommendation from the research advisor.
  • Submission of a two-page project summary of their research written by the student.
  • GPA greater than or equal to 2.5 (submit an unofficial transcript).

The Louis A. Reber Memorial Research Awards in Biochemistry, Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Chemistry consist of three separate awards, one for each major. Winners receive a cash award and certificate. Applications for this graduation award should be submitted in the Spring of the senior year to the Chair of Chemistry & Biochemistry, and are due at the end of March. Requirements on which the awards are based include:
  • Poster presentation on their research accomplishments to the faculty.
  • Submission of a two-page project summary of their research written by the student.
  • Letter of recommendation from their research advisor.
  • GPA greater than or equal to 2.5.
  • Formal presentation of the work at a scientific meeting is recommended, but not required.
