USP is a unique institution, with a focus on the health and natural sciences, offering BS degrees at the undergraduate level, as well as MS and PhD degrees at the graduate level.

Undergraduate BS degrees in the chemical sciences may be obtained in one of three distinct areas: Students may receive Certification of their BS degree through the American Chemical Society (ACS) by selection of appropriate chemistry electives.

All three of these Undergraduate degree programs also serve as excellent majors for students interested in: In addition, several options* are available that expand the flexibility of these degrees, including a:
  • Double Major Program - Receive one BS degree with two majors (e.g., Biochemistry and Microbiology).
  • Double BS Degree Program - Receive two BS degrees (e.g., Biochemistry and Microbiology)
  • BS/PharmD Degree Program in Biochemistry (or Pharmaceutical Chemistry) and Pharmacy
  • Combined BS/DO Degree Program
  • Minors Program in Biology, Mathematics, Physics and Forensics, as well as in areas of the Humanities and Social Sciences, such as Psychology
  • Integrated BS/MS Degree Program in either Chemistry or Biochemistry
[* Note: Contact the DC&B Office for more information about any of the options listed above. Completion of the options may require one or two additional semesters at USP.]

Background and Contact Information

The relatively large faculty size at USP (17 full-time faculty) results in a very low student to faculty ratio and close, personal student-faculty interactions at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.

The diverse backgrounds of the Department faculty span all the traditional areas of chemistry, including biochemistry. At the graduate level, research opportunities are also available in areas related to cell biology, bioinformatics and pharmacology-toxicology.

If you would like information regarding admission to one of our Undergraduate Programs, or would like to arrange to visit the campus for a tour of the Department facilities, please contact our Administrative Coordinator, Vanessa Jones, by e-mail or phone (215-596-8839).

For information about our Graduate Programs, please contact Dr. James McKee, by e-mail or phone (215-596-8847).
