How Can Families Assist Their Student?

Encourage Exploration
Encourage your student to try different courses that may be of interest. Your student must develop his/her own career direction based on his/her individual interests, skills and values.

Support involvement in Student Organizations, Clubs & Sports
Opportunities to demonstrate leadership ability, teamwork, time management, and other career-related skills will help your student prepare for the world of work.

Promote Summer Internships and/or part-time work experiences
It is critical for students to get work experience before they graduate. Many employers use these programs to fill full-time openings. Many avenues should be used when searching for a job, a great place to start is with us! Please urge your student to sign-up for a free account on our online internship/job posting board at www.collegecentral.com/uspcareers

Recommend visits to the Career Services Department
Encourage your student to stop by the CSD and set up an appointment with a counselor to assist them with their career planning.
