Willard
Earns CACC Runner of the Week Honors
Philadelphia (September 4, 2007) - University of the Sciences cross country runner Matt Willard (Cardinal O’Hara High School/Broomall, PA) was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men’s Cross Country Co-Runner of the Week for the week ending September 3, 2007, sharing the honor with Wilmington College’s Joe Debus.
With just four days of practice under his belt, Willard led the Devils to a second place finish at the Delaware Valley College Invitational, an improvement of six places from their 2006 finish. The Devils scored 116 points, losing only to West Chester University who finished with 98 points.
Willard, a sophomore pharmacy major, completed the 8,000 meter course in 28:04 to finish in sixth place overall. Willard also broke the school course record for the DVC course, bettering his own mark of 28:58 set in last year’s race. Willard’s time is also the seventh fastest 8,000-meter time in school history.
The former Cardinal O’Hara athlete is in his second season of competition for the Devils. As a freshman and the Devils #2 runner in 2006, he helped lead the Devils to a seventh place finish at the CACC Championships while earning All-CACC honors.
Next up for the Devils will be the Maroon and Gold Invitational, hosted by Kutztown University on Saturday, September 8, 2007.
