Philadelphia (October 16, 2006) - University of the Sciences cross country runner Matt Willard (Cardinal O’Hara High School/Broomall, PA) was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men’s Cross Country Rookie of the Week for the week ending October 15, 2006.

Earning Rookie of the Week honors for the second time this season, Willard was the first freshman to finish at the 14th annual Cabrini Invitational at Belmont Plateau in Philadelphia; finishing 7th overall and helping the Devils to an eighth place finish.

Willard, a freshman pharmacy major, completed the 8,000 meter course in 28:12.45, 13 seconds behind USP top runner Nick Willey and 65 seconds behind overall winner Travis Stewart of Rutgers-Camden who set a meet record with a time of 27:07.37. Willard’s time is the sixth fastest ever run by a USP runner on the current Belmont Plateau 8,000-meter course. (Willard also holds the second and third fastest times by a USP runner)
