Aifuwa Earns CACC Runner of the Week Honors for the Fourth Time
Philadelphia (October 9, 2006) –The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia
women’s cross country team has competed in five meets so far this year. In each
of those meets, the Devils were led by Joy Aifuwa (Edison High School/Edison,
NJ). After this week’s solid performance, Aifuwa
has again earned the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Runner of
the Week honors.
The junior
harrier took second place overall at Saturday’s Goldey Beacom Invitational,
completing the 5,000-meter course in 20:36. Aifuwa’s
time was her best time in three races at Carousel Park course going back to
the 2004 season, including last year’s contest which she won in 21:15.
Aifuwa's performance helped lead the Devils to a third
place finish. The Devils finished the race with 111 points, just 11 behind second
place Albright College. Ursinus College won the meet with a score of 64 points.
Nine of the 12 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference teams competed in this
morning's meet with USP besting the other eight. Felician College took fourth
overall with a score of 116 and Philadelphia University took fifth with 124
points.
The former Edison High School athlete is in her third season of competition for the Devils. In 2005, she earned Runner of the Week honors five times and finished 3rd at the 2005 CACC Championships earning All Conference honors for the second consecutive year. Since the 2004 season, Aifuwa has earned CACC Runner of the Week honors 12 times.
The Devils next race will be the Cabrini Invitational held at Belmont Plateau in Philadelphia on October 14, 2006.
