Aifuwa Earns Second Straight CACC Runner of the Week Award
Philadelphia (September 12, 2005) -For the second consecutive week, University of the Sciences cross country runner Joy Aifuwa (Edison High School/Edison, NJ) earned the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Runner of the Week honors.
Coming off her first place finish at the Delaware Valley College Invitational during the opening week of the season, Aifuwa followed up by knocking off nearly three minutes from her time to finish in fifth place at the Maroon and Gold Invitational hosted by Kutztown University.
Aifuwa, a sophomore pharmacy major, set a personal best and a school record in completing the 6,000 meter course in 24:20, just three seconds off team champion Kutztown’s top runner. Her time is the best ever for a USP runner on the Kutztown course and the best time by any USP runner at that distance on any course.
The former Edison High School athlete is in her second season of competition for the Devils. As a freshman she earned Runner of the Week honors twice and finished 2nd at the 2004 CACC Championships earning All Conference and Newcomer of the Year honors.
The Devils are off next week
and will return to the friendly confines of Belmont Plateau on September 24,
2005 when they compete in the Philadelphia Metro Small College Championship.
