Devils Win CACC Championship
Philadelphia (October 22, 2005) - Strong finishes by their top three runners
helped propel the University of the Sciences women’s cross country team to their
first-ever Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship today at Belmont
Plateau.
In the closest race in conference history, the Devils captured the team title with 63 points. Felician College was second with 65 points and Georgian Court College was third with 66 points.
Joy Aifuwa (So., Edison HS/Edison, NJ) took third place overall with a time of 20:38.62. Hayley Lentz (Fr., Wilson Area HS/Easton, PA) was the second USP runner to finish, crossing the line in ninth place overall with a personal best time of 21:26.19. Lentz was followed by Shelby Rance (Jr., Central Columbia HS/Bloomsburg, PA) in 14th place with a time of 21:49.75, also a personal best. For their efforts, all three runners were named to the CACC All-Conference Team.
USP’s fourth and fifth finishers also recorded personal bests on the day. Maureen McNally (Fr., Penncrest HS/Media, PA) finished in 25th place overall with a time of 22:53.80 while Dana Lulias (So., Bishop Shanahan HS/West Chester, PA) was 29th overall with a time of 23:21.42. Rounding out the Devils finishers were Amanda Reed (Jr., Haverford HS/Haverford, PA) and Jean Dugan (So., Methacton HS/Norristown, PA). Reed was 33rd overall with a time of 23:43.89 while Dugan was 45th with a time of 24:45.68
In addition to the three
runners earning all-conference honors, USP Head Coach Bob Heller
earned the CACC Women’s Cross Country Coach of the Year honors.
The Devils will now compete at the NCAA East Regionals on November 5, 2005 at
Lock Haven University. This will be USP’s third trip to the NCAA Regionals.
