Willey Earns CACC Runner of the Week Honors
New Haven, Conn. (September 2, 2008) - University of the Sciences cross country runner Nick Willey (Shenendehowa High School/Clifton Park, NY) was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week for the week ending August 31, 2008.
Willey led the Devils to a third place finish at the Delaware Valley College Invitational, their second consecutive top three placing at this meet. The Devils scored 120 points, losing only to Gwynedd Mercy College (86) and Ursinus College (94).
Willey, a senior pharmacy major, completed the 8,000 meter course in 28:24.77 to finish in ninth place overall. Nick’s time was also the third fastest ever run by a USP runner at the six year history of Delaware Valley College Invitational.
The former Shenendehowa High School athlete is in his fourth and final season of competition for the Devils. Willey was the Devils top runner in 2007 before an ankle injury sidelined him for the CACC Championships and the NCAA East Regionals. Nick’s top time in 2007 for 8,000 meters was 27:39 at the University of Delaware Invitational. Willey also earned all-conference honors in 2005 and 2006.
Next up for the Devils will be the Wilmington University Invitational at Carousel Park in Wilmington Delaware on Saturday, September 13, 2008.
