USP Cross Country Teams Named Division II All-Academic Teams by USTFCCCA
Women’s team earns honor for seventh consecutive year

New Orleans, La. (3/8/10)- The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia men’s and women’s cross country teams have been selected by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) as All-Academic Teams for the 2009 season.

For the USP women, it marks the seventh consecutive year they have earned Division II All-Academic Team Honors, having earned the honor in each season since becoming NCAA eligible in 2003. The men’s team earns the honor for the third consecutive year and fourth time in the last five seasons.

In 2009-10 the men’s and women’s cross country programs and their runners have now earned a total of 19 academic awards (17 individual and the two team awards).......more

Waters Named to USTFCCCA All-Academic Team

New Orleans, La. (2/26/10) -University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women’s cross country runner Kristin Waters (West Genesee High School/Syracuse, N.Y.) was named to the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team for the 2009 season.

To qualify for All-Academic honors, a student-athlete must have completed at least 12 semester/quarter hours through the semester of competition at the institution to be eligible. The student-athlete must have at least a 3.25 cumulative grade point average and have placed in the top 30% of the total number of athletes eligible to compete at the respective regional championships or have placed in the top 50% of the field at the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships. The individual’s coach must also be a member of the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Waters, a pharmacy major with a 3.90 grade point average, completed her first season of competition this fall for the Devils......more

Sportsmanship Awards Presented to USP Teams

Philadelphia, Pa. (January 30, 2010) - Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Commissioner Daniel Mara presented the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia the 2008-09 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men’s Team Sportsmanship Award in a ceremony in between games of Saturday's basketball doubleheader against Dominican College. In addition, Mara also presented the 2009 CACC Team Sportsmanship award to the Men's cross country program......more

Eleven Devils Named to 2009 CACC Fall Academic Team
Verbyla becomes a Three-Time Selection

New Haven, Conn. (January 18, 2010) – Eleven University of the Sciences in Philadelphia student-athletes were named to the 2009 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Fall All-Academic Team announced earlier today.

To qualify for the honor, recipients must have maintained at least a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average, participated in a fall CACC championship sport, and been at least a sophomore academically and athletically. The 11 Devils were among 147 honorees in six sports from all 14 conference schools. Three of the 11 are repeat selections from last year’s team.

One of the three, women’s cross country runner Sarah Verbyla (Wyoming Valley West High School/Larksville, Pa.) was amongst 18 CACC student-athletes to be named to the CACC Fall Academic Team three times..........more

Crawford and Kaminski Named to 2009 Philadelphia Inquirer
Women’s Cross Country Area All-Academic Team

Philadelphia, Pa. (12/27/09) – University of the Sciences in Philadelphia cross country runners Beth Crawford and Jessica Kaminski was amongst the seven female athletes named to the 2009 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women’s Cross Country Team as announced on Sunday.

The Philadelphia Area All-Academic Teams are voted on by the members of the Philadelphia Area Sports Information Directors Association (Philly-SIDA). To be eligible for selection, a student-athlete must be a sophomore academically and athletically, attend one of the 28 Philadelphia area colleges and universities and have a minimum grade point average of 3.0..........

Devils Close Out Season at NCAA Regional Meet (11/8/09)

Four runners set personal best times as the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia men's cross country team closed out their 2009 season with a 19th place finish at the NCAA East Regional Championships held at Franklin Park in Boston, Massachusetts on Sunday.

The Devils finished with 519 points, ten behind 18th place St. Anselm College(509) and 47 ahead of CACC rival Holy Family University (566). Host U-Mass Lowell captured the team title with a score of 43 points. There were 32 schools competing in this year's race. This year's race marks the fourth time in the past five years that the Devils have competed as a team at the NCAA regionals. Their 19th place finish was their second best showing, behind only last year's 16th place effort.........more

Three Women Runners Set Personal Bests at NCAA Regionals (11/8/09)

Three runners set personal best times as the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women's cross country team closed out their 2009 season with a 20th place finish at this year's NCAA East Regional Championship at Franklin Park in Boston Massachusetts on Sunday.

The Devils finished with 544 points, 21 behind 19th place Assumption College (523) and 12 ahead of Molloy College (566). Stonehill College took top honors amongst the 32 schools competing with 51 points. This year's meet marked the seventh consecutive season that the women's cross country team has competed as a team in the NCAA regional.........more

Waters, Crawford Earn All-Conference Honors as Devils Place Fourth at CACC Championship Meet (10/24/09)

Freshman Kristin Waters and senior Beth Crawford earned All-Conference honors as the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women's cross country team finished fourth at Saturday's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship (CACC) at Belmont Plateau in Philadelphia.

For Crawford (Camden Catholic HS/Haddon Heights, N.J.) it was her second consecutive All-CACC honor while Waters (West Genesee HS/Syracuse, N.Y.) garnered her first. The Devils finished with 129 points, tying with Wilmington University.........more

Devils Place Fourth at CACC Championship (10/24/09)
Earn Team Sportsmanship Award

Rain and poor course conditions did not keep the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia men's cross country team from recording their third consecutive top four finish at the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) championship meet, placing fourth amongst the ten teams competing on Saturday at Belmont Plateau in Philadelphia.

The Men's Cross Country Team also earned the CACC Team Sportsmanship Award. The CACC Team Sportsmanship Award is given to the team in each sponsored conference sport that best exemplifies the spirit of athletic competition and sportsmanship. The voting for this award is done by the league’s 11 coaches........more

Men's Harriers Place Sixth at Cabrini Invitational (10/10/09)

The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia men's cross country team had all seven scorers finish in less than thirty minutes for the second time this season as they placed sixth at the Cabrini Invitational at Belmont Plateau in Philadelphia on Saturday.

The Devils finished with 155 points, seven behind a strong Rutgers-Camden squad. Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference rivals Wilmington University (45) and Philadelphia University (66) were first and third respectively. Ramapo college was second with 57 points and Penn State University's (Main Campus) Club Team was fourth (66 points). The sixth place finish snaps USP's three-meet streak of top three finishes, but the Devils have now finished 6th or better in 16 straight regular season meets, dating back to the start of the 2007 season........more

Devils Race to a Sixth Place Finish at Cabrini Invite (10/10/09)

The first five finishers for the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia finished 74 seconds apart as the Devils recorded a sixth place finish at the Cabrini Invitational at Belmont Plateau on Saturday afternoon.

The Devils finished with 167 points, 14 behind 5th place Wilmington University. Division I Penn State University's Club Team took home the team title, placing five runners in the top ten to finish with 28 points. Georgian Court University was second with 70 points, followed by Philadelphia University(88) and Ramapo College (139).........more

Women Harriers Take Second at Belmont (10/3/09)

Three of the Devils top four finishers ran personal best times as the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women’s cross country team took home the second place trophy at Saturday’s Belmont classic at Belmont Plateau in Philadelphia.

USP finished with 87 points, three points ahead of third place Nyack College and 19 behind meet champion Wilmington University. Saturday’s second place finish is eight places better than the Devils did in last year’s Belmont Classic and marks their third consecutive top five finish in a regular season race. It is the USP women’s cross country team’s longest streak of consecutive top-five finishes since achieving the feat in four straight races in 2006........more

Devils Take Second at Belmont Classic (10/3/09)

The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia men’s cross country team placed all seven scorers in the top 25 as they cruised to a second place finish at Saturday’s Belmont classic at Belmont Plateau in Philadelphia.

The Devils finished with 63 points, 32 ahead of third place Rutgers-Newark and 39 behind meet champion Wilmington University (24 points), who had five of the first nine finishers. Saturday’s second place finish marks the Devils’ third consecutive race where the team has placed in the top three. The USP men’s team has now recorded a third place or better finish in six of their last nine regular season races and 10 of their last 15.......more

Devils Run to a Fourth Place finish at Philadelphia Metro Meet (9/26/09)

The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women's cross country team recorded their best finish at Saturday's Philadelphia Metro Meet in the last two decades as they again used a tightly packed group amongst their top five finishers to place fourth overall in the meet.

The Devils fourth place finish at the Metro was their best ever in the 12-year tenure of current head coach Bob Heller and their best showing at the Metro since back-to-back third place finishes in 1988 and 1989. USP scored 176 points,.......more

Solid Effort as Devils Record Best Finish Ever at Metro Meet (9/26/09)

The first seven runners from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia to finish at Saturday's Philadelphia Metro Meet at Belmont Plateau completed the course in less than thirty minutes as the Devils recorded their best finish ever in the thirty year history of the meet, capturing the third place trophy.

The seven runners breaking the 30-minute mark for the race is also a first for a USP cross country team, with four of the seven setting personal best marks at the race. The Devils scored 87 points, 26 behind second place Felician College and 57 behind meet champion Philadelphia University......more

Devils Take Home Third Place at Wilmington Invitational (9/12/09)

The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia men's cross country team placed three runners in the top ten overall as they recorded a third place finish at Saturday's Wilmington University Invitational at Carousel Park in Wilmington, Delaware.

USP's three top ten finishers all completed the challenging Carousel Park course in under 30 minutes, leading the Devils the Devils to their second consecutive third place finish at this event. .....more

Solid Effort by All as Devils Take Fifth at Wilmington Invitational (9/12/09)

The first five finishers for the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women's cross country team all finished within 72 seconds of each other as the Devils took fifth place at Saturday's Wilmington University Invitational at Carousel Park in Wilmington, Delaware.

The close pack of USP runners led the Devils to their second straight fifth place finish at the event. USP finished with 105 points........more

USP Men Open Season with Seventh Place Finish (9/5/09)

The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia men's cross country team kicked off their 2009 campaign with a seventh place finish at the Delaware Valley College Invitational Saturday morning in Doylestown, Pennsylvania.

The Devils had four runners finish the 8,000 meter course in less than 30 minutes and had their top seven runners finish in less than 32 minutes en route to their seventh place finish......The race marks the first time this decade that the Devils have had their top seven runners finish in less than 32 minutes in their season opener......more

USP Women Record Seventh Place Finish in Season Opener (9/5/09)

The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women's cross country team opened the 2009 season with a seventh place finish at Saturday's Delaware Valley College Invitational in Doylestown. The seventh place finish was one place better than the Devils fared in last season's meet

The Devils finished with 228 points, 72 behind fifth place Gwynedd Mercy College. West Chester University won the meet with a score of 70 points......Saturday's race marked the first time that the USP women had their first five runners finish in less than 28:30 in a regular season 6,000-meter race (USP has done this three times at the NCAA regional championship).......more
