Jones Named CACC Women’s Tennis Rookie of the Week
New Haven, Conn. (October 14, 2008) – University of the Sciences in Philadelphia freshman women’s tennis player Laney Jones (Wyoming Seminary High School/Blakeslee, Pa.) was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women’s Tennis Rookie of the Week for the week ending October 12, 2008.
Jones completed a busy week with a 4-1 record in singles competition. Playing in the number six singles slot for the Devils, Laney opened the week with a loss to Philadelphia University’s Sarah Harris, her first and only loss of the season in singles competition. Jones then won her next four matches in straight sets. The four wins improved her record to 8-1 on the year in singles matches.
In doubles competition, Jones played at the #2 doubles spot, teaming up with senior Christina Sebastiani. The duo won their final three doubles matches of the season, defeating teams from Chestnut Hill College, Caldwell College and Post University. For the week, Jones and Sebastiani were 3-2 in doubles matches.
Jones is a pharmacy major at USP, pursuing a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the institution. She is in her first season of competition for the Devils.
