USP
Closes out Fall Season with a Pair of Wins (10/12/08)
The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women's tennis team closed
out their fall season over the weekend with a pair of Central Atlantic
Collegiate Conference wins, defeating Caldwell College 7-2 on Saturday
and sweeping Post University 9-0 on Sunday.
The two wins improves USP's record to 4-5 overall and 3-4 in league play.
The Devils finished fifth in the final league standings and will miss
the playoffs for the first time since their inception in 2005.
In Sunday's match against Post, the Devils opened the competition by
sweeping all three doubles matches. The team of senior
Gabrielle Exler (Timber Creek HS/Sicklerville, N.J.)
and junior Danielle Perfetti (Cardinal O'Hara HS/Clifton Heights,
Pa.) defeated Julie Hurst and Jenna Salveson 8-0.
The duo finished the fall with a 7-2 match record, the best amongst the
Devils' doubles teams. Senior Christina
Sebastiani (Paulsboro HS/Sewell, N.J.) and freshman Laney
Jones (Wyoming Seminary /Blakeslee, Pa.) defeated
Scarlet Gonzalez and Mallorie Michalak 8-0 at #2 doubles to finish with
a 3-2 record. At #1 doubles, sophomore Zahra
Hasan (Ward Melville HS/East Setauket, N.Y.) and freshman
Bridget Frymoyer (Governor Mifflin HS/ Shillington, Pa.)
recorded an 8-2 win over Leah McQueeney and Kelsey Jackovich. Hasan and
Frymoyer's double record stands at 2-3 on the season.
In singles competition, Jones won her third
straight contest, besting Michalek, 6-1, 6-2 at #6 singles. Laney
finishes the fall with an 8-1 singles mark. Perfetti
scored a straight set 6-, 6-0 win over Salveson at #5 singles to finish
with a 5-4 record while Exler also finished
with a 5-4 record beating Hurst at #4 singles with an identical 6-0, 6-0
score.
At #2 singles, Sebastiani defeated Gonzalez,
6-1, 6-0 to earn her fourth singles win of the year. Frymoyer
earned her third singles win with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Jackovich at #3
singles. Hasan rounded out the singles winners
with a 3-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-5) win over McQueeney at #1 singles, earning
her second singles win of the season.
One day early, the Devils captured two of the three doubles matches and
five of six singles to defeat Caldwell College 7-2. Sebastiani
and Jones defeated Kirsty Leedham and Danielle
Klion 8-5 at #2 doubles and Exler and Perfetti
defeated Suzy Dragovcic and Mia Attyeh at #3 doubles, 8-1.
Jones won at #6 singles, defeating Attyeh 6-,
6-0 while Perfetti defeated Dragovcic, 6-2,
6-1 at #5 singles. Frymoyer was a 7-5, 6-2 winner
over Leedham at the number three slot and Sebastiani
was a 7-5, 6-4 winner over Olga Ndhlovu at the number two slot. Exler
won her match at #4 singles when Klion retired with Exler leading 4-0
in the first set.
Devils
Sweep Griffins to Earn First Conference Win (10/10/08)
The University of
the Sciences in Philadelphia women's tennis team earned their first win
against a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opponent on Friday, sweeping
Chestnut Hill College 9-0 at Chestnut Hill's Tennis Courts.
The win improves
the Devils record to 2-5 overall and 1-4 in CACC games. The Griffins fall
to 5-12 overall and 2-4 in league play.
The Devils
won all three doubles matches to start off the contest with a 3-0 leading
heading into the singles round. Sophomore Zahra Hasan (Ward
Melville HS/East Setauket, N.Y.) and freshman Bridget
Frymoyer (Governor Mifflin HS/ Shillington, Pa.) earned
an 8-5 win over Erin Anderson and Cara Wallin at #1 doubles. Senior Christina
Sebastiani (Paulsboro HS/Sewell, N.J.) and freshman Laney
Jones (Wyoming Seminary /Blakeslee, Pa.) were 8-4 victors
over Rachel Steinberg and Lauren Pescatore at #2 doubles. Senior Gabrielle
Exler (Timber Creek HS/Sicklerville, N.J.) and junior Danielle
Perfetti (Cardinal O'Hara HS/Clifton Heights, Pa.) rounded
out the doubles winners with an 8-4 win over Brittany Parker and Shaina
Ward at #3 doubles.
In singles
competition, Jones moved to 6-1 on the season
with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Parker at #6 singles. Perfetti
was a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Ward at #5 singles while Exler
scored a 6-2, 6-2 win over Karen Guwuriro at #4 singles. At the number
three slot, Frymoyer earned a 6-0, 6-4 win over
Steinberg and Sebastiani was a 6-4, 6-2 winner
over Wallin at the #2 slot. Completing the sweep, Hasan
defeated Anderson at #1 singles, 6-3, 6-3.
USP returns to action
on Saturday, October 11, 2008 when the take on Caldwell College in Caldwell
, New Jersey. USP will play in Waterbury, Connecticut on Sunday, October
12, 2008 against Post University.
Devils
fall to Goldey Beacom (10/8/08)
Goldey Beacom College won five of six singles matches as they defeated
the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women's tennis team 7-2
Wednesday afternoon at the McNeil Field Tennis Courts in Philadelphia.
The loss drops USP's record to 1-5 overall and 0-4 in Central Atlantic
Collegiate Conference matches. Goldey Beacom improves to 9-2 overall and
4-2 in league matches.
The Devils found themselves trailing early in the match as the Lightning
won two of the three doubles contest. USP's lone point came at #3 doubles
as senior Gabrielle
Exler (Timber Creek HS/Sicklerville, N.J.) and junior
Danielle
Perfetti (Cardinal O'Hara HS/Clifton Heights, Pa.) defeated
Jennifer Jones and Stephanie Bain, 8-0. In the other doubles matches,

by Daniela Pereira and Anastoshia Lewis , 8-5 at #2 doubles.
Laney
Jones scored the remaining point for the Devils with an
8-4 pro-set win over Bain at #6 singles. Jones
improved to 5-1 on the season in singles competition with the win. Hasan,
Sebastiani, Frymoyer and Exler all dropped their singles
matches in straight sets. Perfetti split the
two sets at #5 singles with Jennifer Jones, before dropping the tiebreaker
10-1.
The Devils
close out their regular season with a trio of matches on the road beginning
on Friday, October 10, 2008 when they face Chestnut Hill College. USP
travels to Caldwell College on Saturday, October 11, 2008 and Post University
on Sunday, October 12, 2008.
Rams
Defeat Devils (10/6/08)
The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women's tennis team dropped
their third consecutive Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match,
losing to Philadelphia University, 8-1 at the Abraham J. Salaman Courts
on the Rams campus Monday afternoon.
The loss drops the Devils record to 1-4 overall and 0-3 in league games.
Philadelphia University improves to 10-2 overall and 5-0 in CACC matches.
The Devils lone point came in doubles competition. Senior Gabrielle
Exler (Timber Creek HS/Sicklerville, N.J.) and junior
Danielle
Perfetti (Cardinal O'Hara HS/Clifton Heights, Pa.)
teamed up to defeat Brittany Villa and Sarah Harris, 8-5 at #3 doubles.
In the other doubles matches, sophomore Zahra

lost to Adriana Rodriguez and Daniela Rodriguez 8-2 in the #1 doubles

by Christian Brzozowski and Stephanie Reinke, 8-1 at #2 doubles.
In singles competition, all six USP players lost their matches.
The Devils return to action on Wednesday, October 8, 2008 when they host
Goldey Beacom College. Start time is 3:00 p.m.
Women's
Tennis Earns First Win of Season(10/2/08)
The University of
the Sciences in Philadelphia women's tennis team earned their first win
of the season Thursday afternoon as they defeated La Salle University
5-2 at LaSalle's Belfield Tennis Complex.
USP improves to 1-3
on the season. La Salle falls to 0-6
The Devils
opened the match by taking two of the three doubles matches to earn the
first point. Sophomore Zahra Hasan (Ward Melville HS/East
Setauket, N.Y.) and senior
Christina Sebastiani (Paulsboro HS/Sewell, N.J.) teamed
up to defeat Lauren Perry and Courtney Babo, 8-4 at #1 doubles. Junior
Danielle Perfetti (Cardinal O'Hara HS/Clifton Heights, Pa.)
and senior Gabrielle Exler (Timber Creek HS/Sicklerville,
N.J.) took the #3 doubles, 8-5 over Christina Gomez and
Lauren Caffrey.
Moving to
singles competition, USP freshman Laney Jones (Wyoming Seminary
/Blakeslee, Pa.) remained perfect in dual match singles
competition with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Jessica Acilio at #6 singles. Exler
and Perfetti improved to 2-2 on the season with
wins at #4 and #5 singles respectively. Exler
was a 6-1, 6-0 win over Pearl Wilkins at #4 singles while Perfetti
defeated Taylor Silverio 6-2, 6-2 at the #5 slot. USP's final singles
win came at the #2 singles slot as Sebastiani
defeated Babo, 6-4, 6-2 to earn her first win of the season.
The Devils return
to action on Monday, October 6, 2008 when they travel to face Philadelphia
University in a CACC conference matchup.
Devils
Fall at West Chester (10/1/08)
West Chester University
handed the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women's tennis team
their third consecutive loss Tuesday afternoon, 8-1 at the WCU tennis
courts in West Chester, Pennsylvania.
The loss drops USP's
record to 0-3. West Chester improves to 2-3.
USP's lone win of
the match came at #6 singles as freshman Laney Jones (Wyoming
Seminary/ Blakeslee, Pa.) defeated Chantelle Chaudoin, 6-0,
6-2. Jones improved to 3-0 on the season with the win. The Golden Rams
swept the remaining five singles slots, with four of the five wins coming
in straight sets. The number three singles match between freshman Bridget
Frymoyer (Governor Mifflin HS/ Shillington, Pa.) and WCU's
Kara Shumock went to a tie breaker game after Frymoyer won the first set
6-2 and Shumock the second 6-2. Shumock then won the tiebreaker 10-7 to
capture the match, 2-6, 6-2, 1-0.
West Chester also
swept all three doubles matches on the afternoon.
The Devils return
to action on Thursday, October 2, 2008 when they travel to face La Salle
University. The match is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m.
